Set of five black lacquer, circular dishes. Each dish decorated with a plant of the season: flowering plum beside waves, young ferns and grasses, flowering Malvern plant, red maple trees at a hill, and bamboo beside the full moon. All on glossy black lacquer ground, the decoration in shades of gold, silver, red and brown sprinkled lacquer (hiramakie), and with gold powders. Decorations in the style of Ogata Korin. Made for Heiando by Wanyo. Japan, ca. 1985.

In fitted wooden box, 7 ½ x 7 ½ x 4 inches (19 x 19 x 10.2 cm), inscribed on the lid KÔRIN-sai-gahen-maki-e, ichimonji meimei-sara (Dishes individually decorated in KÔRIN style). Signed and sealed inside the lid HEIANDÔ & seal Heiandô, and Wanyo (?) & seal Wanyo.

Set of two tokkuri of bulbous shape, one with slightly everting rim. Light brown stoneware, all sides covered with almost transparent glaze with milky streaks. Unglazed clay under finger- and thumb-marks from dipping into glaze. Both with square seal imprint (unread). Attributed to Matsumoto Hiroyuki. Japan, ca. 1985.
Bottle A: h 4 1/8 in, diameter 2 7/8 in. (10.5 and 7.3 cm); bottle B: h 4 3/8 in. diameter 3 1/8 in. (11 and 7.8 cm).

Elegant, functional paper knife, reminiscent of Art Nouveau Style. Smoothly carved wood base, covered with Japanese black and red lacquer (urushi), and applied with cracked eggshell. Reminiscent of Art Nouveau Style.

The base of thin but strong cypress wood, the wood-grain visible through of top-layer of red lacquer over a base-coat of black lacquer. Each dish decorated with a black lacquer line- drawing of one of the five seasonal plants (Plum, orchids, pine, bamboo, chrysanthemum.) Each dish signed at the underside with a gold lacquer seal ZÔHIKO. Japan, approx. 1985.

Tall shape, beautiful white glaze, painted in red, blue, gray, pale yellow and green overglaze enamels with a spray of three flowering roses. Two thin red lines around the foot ring. Signed in red inside the foot rim with the artist’s signature MASASHI. Purchased in Japan around 1985. Height 2” (5.2 cm), diameter approx. 2“ (5 cm). Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 2 7/8 x 2 ¾ x 2 ¾” (7.7 x 7.2 x 7.2 cm). Inscribed on the lid nishiki (brocade) gui-nomi (wine cup), and with a plant’s name. Inside of lid inscribed with the name KAKIEMON and signed MASASHI tsuku (made by) above a square red seal MASASHI.

Tall, straight shape, with grayish rim and thick celadon glaze on brown clay with enclosures. Imprinted at the bottom near the foot with the artist’s seal: HIROSHI. Purchased in Japan around 1985. Perfect condition. Height 2” (5 cm), diameter 2 ½” (6.2 cm).
In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 3 ¼ x 3 1/8 x 3 1/8 inches (8.5 x 8 x 8 cm). Inscribed on the lid ‘wine cup’ (gui-nomi), and signed inside the lid: HIROSHI tsukuru (made by HIROSHI) above a square red seal HIROSHI.

Wide shape, with grayish rim and beautiful thick, deep red glaze on brown, fine clay. Imprinted near the foot rim with the artist’s seal: RI, partly covered by glaze. Purchased in Japan around 1985. Perfect condition. Diameter 2 ¾” (8.6 cm), height 1 ¼” (3 cm).
In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 2 ½ x 4 x 4 inches (6.2 x 10.2 x 10.2 cm). Inscribed on the lid: dragon blood color, wine cup (gui-nomi), and signed RINAN above a square red seal RINAN.

Glossy black lacquer ground, decorated in shades of red and gold lacquer, gold powders (nashiji, kinpun), crushed blue shell (aogai), and gold foil squares (kirigane) with colourful tsubo-tsubo toys. Bottom and interiors of silver lacquer, rims of gold lacquer. Height 2 ¾” (7.1 cm), diameter 2 5/8” (6.8 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1990. Tiny scratch at top, otherwise perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 4 1/8 x 3 1/8 x 3 1/8 inches (10.5 x 8 x 8 cm), inscribed at the front ‘Tsubo-tsubo’, natsume. Signed HIROSHI and with red seal imprint HIROSHI. Signed and sealed also at one corner of the white silk wrapping cloth.
Enclosed leaflet with the artist’s name SAKITA HIROSHI (1955 - ), Ishikawa pref., Wajima, mentioning the young artist’s memberships in societies and awards in arts and crafts’ contests.
