Virtually square silk fukusa ceremonial cloth with a hand-embroidered design in colored silk threads and gold and silver of Ebisu and Daikoku playing a game of go during the New Year’s celebrations. Embroidery is partially in relief.The reverse is plain red silk. Golden-brown silk tassels. Japan, Meiji era, 19th century.
H 27 ¼ x W 27 inches.
Black silk threads on the go board partially missing, some loose black silk thread on Daikoku’s bag, some rubbing of the embroidery, all in all still very good condition.
