Rather small ovoid jar with high, rounded shoulder and an upright neck with slightly everted rim. The light brown opaque glaze shows some luster and has small white spots there where the bubbles in the glaze burst. On the body a spot of greenish transparent glaze, from the rim all the way down to the foot with fine crackle. Flat bottom on outside with several white inclusions. Japan, Shigaraki ware, 19th century. Height 7 inches, diameter 5 3/8 inches. Very thin glaze crack at neck, some minimal traces of usage. Otherwise very good condition. This kind of jars was used for storage, in particular storage of tea leaves.
