| Small square box with a slide, used for carrying food. Through two cut out circles in the sides the small boxes on the inside become visible. Inside there are a larger box with cover, one smaller of the same height, but of half the length and two more that are half the size of the smaller box, one of which has a cover. The outer and inner boxes of wood with lacquer finish, all insides in black lacquer. Poem written in black ink on the slide. Brass (sentoku) handle. H 5 5/8; L 7 3/8; D 4 inches (14,4 x 18,9 x 10,4 cm). Japan, Meiji period. Cover of the larger box somewhat warped, some minor traces of usage (cracks in black lacquer on wood seams, some lacquer and finish rubbed off). | ||
