Red lacquer ground with an all-over design of stylized chrysanthemums (kiku mon) in chinkin technique. Chinkin technique consists of incised lines filled with gold dust. Black lacquer interiors. Signed at bottom in incised characters: SHIGEIO. Wajima chinkin lacquer. Height 2 ¾” (7 cm), diameter 2 3/8” (6,7 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1982. Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 4 ¼ x 3 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches (10.5 x 8.4 x 8.4 cm), inscribed, signed by the artist, and with read seal imprint at the front of tomobako. Signed and sealed also at one corner of the white silk wrapping cloth. Enclosed leaflet with artist’s name, SUSUMU SHIGEIO, and address of his studio in Ishikawa, his exhibitions and memberships to associations. This piece is located in Europe (EC). |
