Red lacquer ground, decorated in gold, brown, black, red and green hiramakie and takamakie lacquer with a pair of Tatebina dolls in rich brocade clothing. Black lacquer interiors, gold lacquer rim. Height 2 ¾” (7 cm), diameter 2 5/8” (6.7 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1976. Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 3 7/8 x 3 1/8 x 3 1/8 inches (10 x 8.5 x 8.5 cm), inscribed at top of the lid: ‘red (lacquer), medium-sized natsume, Hina ningyō (Festival dolls). Signed by the artist on the left, and with black circular seal imprint on lid of outer box. This piece is located in Europe (EC). |
