Tea caddy of flat or low shape (hira natsume). Deep brown lacquer ground. Decorated in shades of gold, silver, black and dark brown at one side with reeds growing at a rocky shore, the reverse side with decaying post in waves. The bottom of black lacquer. Black lacquer interiors. Height 2 3/8” (6.2 cm), diameter 3 3/8” (8.5 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1980. Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 3 ½ x 4 x 4 inches (9 x 10 x 10 cm), inscribed at one side yoshibe makie (reeds at shore), hira natsume (low shape tea caddy). Signed TAI’EN and with square red seal imprint TAI’EN. This piece is located in Europe (EC). |
