Tea caddy of low, wide shape (hira natsume). The wooden base covered with semi-transparent dark brown lacquer. Decorated in red lacquer with stylized chrysanthemums and grasses with inlaid silver metal dewdrops. The bottom in black lacquer. Black lacquer interiors. Height 2” (5.2 cm), diameter 3 1/8” (8 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1980. Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 3 ¾ x 3 5/8 x 3 5/8 inches (9.5 x 10 x 10 cm), inscribed at one side tsuyu kiku (dew drops on chrysanthemums), shoryu (probably a kind of brown) , hira natsume (low shape tea caddy). Signed SÔRIN and with square red seal imprint SÔRIN. Printed label glued to inside of lid with concise information on size, color and artist.
