Black lacquer ground, decorated in gold and red lacquer with an all-over design of overlapping Japanese crests, kiku and kiri mon, resembling those seen in the Kôdaiji temple, Kyoto. Black lacquer interiors, gold lacquer rims. Height 2 7/8” (7.2 cm), diameter 2 5/8” (6.7 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1980. Very slight rubbing, otherwise perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 4 1/8 x 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 inches (10.5 x 9 x 9 cm), inscribed at cover Kôdaiji makie, natsume. Signed at the side GETSU’HÔ with circular red seal imprint GETSU’HÔ. This piece is located in the EC. |
