Deep red-brown lacquer ground decorated in black lacquer with an all-over design of scattered cherry petals. Black lacquer interiors. Inside the lid decorated with the outline of the Yoshino hills in sprinkled gold powders and applied with scattered tiny gold metal cherry petals. Height 2 7/8” (7.3 cm), diameter 2 5/8” (6.7 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1980. Very slight rubbing, otherwise perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 4 1/8 x 3 ½ x 3 ½ inches (10.5 x 9 x 9 cm), inscribed at one side Yoshino yama makie, yuki sakura (Cherry blossom snow). Signed at one side NAKAMURA SÔETSU with square black seal imprint SÔETSU. This piece is located in the EC. |
