Glossy black lacquer ground, decorated in shades of red and gold lacquer, gold powders (nashiji, kinpun), crushed blue shell (aogai), and gold foil squares (kirigane) with colourful tsubo-tsubo toys. Bottom and interiors of silver lacquer, rims of gold lacquer. Height 2 ¾” (7.1 cm), diameter 2 5/8” (6.8 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1990. Tiny scratch at top, otherwise perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 4 1/8 x 3 1/8 x 3 1/8 inches (10.5 x 8 x 8 cm), inscribed at the front ‘Tsubo-tsubo’, natsume. Signed HIROSHI and with red seal imprint HIROSHI. Signed and sealed also at one corner of the white silk wrapping cloth. Enclosed leaflet with the artist’s name SAKITA HIROSHI (1955 - ), Ishikawa pref., Wajima, mentioning the young artist’s memberships in societies and awards in arts and crafts’ contests.
