Sake cup, made and distributed in connection with the 1970 World Exposition which took place in Osaka, Japan. Solid 24 carat gold plate, decorated at the centre in high relief with the Expo’s emblem, five circles arranged around a central dot, and with the inscription ‘EXPO ‘70’. Signed at bottom: MMS CO 24K GP. Very small surface scratches (see pictures), otherwise original condition. Diameter: 2 7/8" (7.4 cm; height 1 1/8" (2.7 cm), weight: 66 gr.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 1 3/4 x 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches (4.5 x 9.6 x 9.6 cm). Imprinted on the lid are the words ‘Bampaku kinen kin sakazuki ’ (Golden sake cup commemorating the world expo), below that is written EXPO ’70 – 1 – OT – 2 - Z – 11. An inspection stamp (shôshi), affixed to the lower right-hand corner, bears the inscription EXPO ’70. This piece is located in Europe (EU). |
