Sake cup, stoneware with grey glaze, Japan, 20th c.

Bowl of wide shape, coarse clay (inclusions) with thin grey glaze. Artistís square seal imprinted near the foot: CHIKUS‘. Height 1 7/8 inches (4.9 cm), diameter 2 ľ inches (6 cm). Purchased in Japan, Gifu around 1985. Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 3 x 3 ľ x 3 ľ inches (7.5 x 8.5 x 8.5 cm). The box inscribed at the front with the name of kiln Shi-hŰ nobori hatsu-gama, and the word gui-nomi (wine cup) beside the artistís signature reading HAMADA CHIKUS‘ above a square red seal CHIKUS‘.
