Bowl of wide shape, coarse clay (inclusions) with thin grey glaze. Artist’s square seal imprinted near the foot: CHIKUSÔ. Height 1 5/8 inches (4.2 cm), diameter 2 ¼ inches (6 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1985, Gifu. Perfect condition. In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 3 x 3 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches (7.5 x 8.5 x 8.5 cm). The box inscribed at the front with the name of kiln Shi-hô nobori hatsu-gama, and the word gui-nomi (wine cup) beside the artist’s signature reading HAMADA CHIKUSÔ above a square red seal CHIKUSÔ. This piece is located in Europe (EC). |
