Suzuki, Misako, Impey, Oliver R., The Lacquer of Suzuki Mutsumi and Suzuki Misako. Catalog of an exhibition held in the Ostasiatiska Museet, Stockholm, 1988, and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1988. Reading, Asmolean Museum Publications, Oriental Art, 1988. 48 pp., 16 color ills., 47 b/w ills., 8 3/16 x 8 11/16 in. (21 x 14.5 cm). Paper. Cover slightly rubbed, otherwise good condition. Modern style Japanese lacquer ware, as shown in this catalogue, represents an unique combination of appealing elegance and strong durability, resulting in utensils suitable to be used (almost) everyday. Shapes and surfaces of the almost weightless bowls, cups, and trays, were designed and lacquered by Mutsumi Suzuki, a descendant of a family of Kyoto lacquer masters; decorative touches were added by his wife, Misako Suzuki. Japanese lacquer objects, as shown in this catalogue, are modern and classic at the same time. This book is located in Europe (EC). |
