Set of five shallow rectangular dishes in wakasa-nuri, a lacquer technique that creates a mottled effect. The base of straight-grained cypress wood covered with black lacquer. Decorated in typical Wakasa style with an irregular pattern of gold foil and shell inlays, ground-down and polished to a glossy, smooth finish. Japan, around 1985.
L 6”, W 4 3/8”, H 9/16” (15.5 x 11.3 x 1.5 cm). Very slight wear to the black lacquer underside. These dishes are located in Europe (EC). |
