Set of five circular red dishes, decorated in black lacquer with the flowers of the seasons. The base of thin but strong cypress wood, the wood-grain visible through of top-layer of red lacquer over a base-coat of black lacquer. Each dish decorated with a black lacquer line- drawing of one of the five seasonal plants (Plum, orchids, pine, bamboo, chrysanthemum.) Each dish signed at the underside with a gold lacquer seal ZÔHIKO. Japan, approx. 1985. Diameter 4 ¼ in. (11 cm). Perfect condition. In fitted wooden box (tomobako), 1 3/8” (H) x 5 5/16” x 5 5/16” (3.6 x 13.7 x 13.7 cm), inscribed on the lid and with red seal ZÔHIKO. These dishes are located in Europe (EC). |
