Elegant, functional paper knife, reminiscent of Art Nouveau Style. Smoothly carved wood base, covered with Japanese black and red lacquer (urushi), and applied with cracked eggshell. Reminiscent of Art Nouveau Style. Length 8 15/16 in. (23 cm), width 5/16 in. (0.8 cm), in gray felt sheath. Around 1985. Perfect condition, as new. Charles Gauthier studied Japanese Lacquer Art for three years (1979-1981) at the Kyoto City Academy of Fine Arts, Japan. Provenance: Private collection Europe, bought directly from the artist around 1985. This piece is located in Europe (EC). |
