In the nape of a gnarly tree sits a lohan wrapped in a orange colored garment, the eyes closed, meditating. Black ink and colors on paper. Dated: Guangxu and signed: Ren Yu (Jen Yü) and sealed. Lower right red seal. Painted area: height 37 5/8 in.; width 11 ¼ inches. Overall length 64 ¼ inches. Two restored tears in upper half of painting, few small missing spots restored. Generally good condition. Wooden scroll ends. Ren Yu was the son of Ren Xiong (see stock # 10309). He lived 1853-1901 and was one of the ‘Four Ren’. |
