Albumen print, hand colored. Title: H 58. SCENE IN THE COUNTRY. View on a road through a hamlet. Farmers with tools, a child on an ox. In the background a tall stone lantern. Artist: Kusakabe Kimbei (1841-1943). Photograph probably from mid 1880s. Mat and framed.
Inner outline of mat: 7 5/8 x 10 3/16 inches (19.7 x 26.2 cm) (the actual photo is slightly larger, as it continues underneath mat); frame: 18 1/8 x 20 1/8 inches (46.6 x 51.7 cm). Very good condition. Hinged at margins on matboard (can be undone). Kusakabe Kimbei (1841-1943) was active in the 1880s through 1900. He was an assistant to Felix Beato until 1863. He started his own studio in 1881 in Yokohama. Ex Prudential Art Program (see label on reverse of frame). |
