Becker, Ingeborg, Japonismus, Ostasien in der Kunst des Jugendstils (Japonism in the Museum of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Functionalism, Berlin),
Broehan-Museum, Landesmuseum fuer Jugendstil, Art Deco und Funktionalismus (1889-1939), Berlin, Germany, 1997. 96 pp., 91 colour illustrations, 22 b/w illustrations. German text. 24 x 17 cm. Paper. Perfect condition. At the turn of the century the Japanese very successfully produced objects for western taste, while western designers produced objects in Japanese style. It sometimes is difficult to decide whether objects, made in Berlin, Sevres, or Kopenhagen, are influenced by the Japanese aestethics, or whether they simply are imitations. The selection of objects owned by the museum makes it obvious to which extent the newly discovered Japanese art influenced such European artists and craftsmen as the brothers Daum, Emile Gallee, Henry van der Velde, Belgium, Bing & Groendal, in Copenhagen, and many others. Item location: Europe. |
