Rich zushi with the sculpture of Amida Buddha, sitting on a lotus seat in front of a mandorla on top of a 6-tiered podium. His hands are folded in his lap. The inside of the doors are painted with lotus flowers in water, an allusion to the Western Paradise. The skirt above the figure decorated with phoenixes in the clouds in gold on blue. The outside of the case done in gold lacquer with finely detailed metalwork. Japan, 19th century. Height 11 7/8 inches (30 cm). Case with normal wear and chips. Inside of doors slightly rubbed, skirt rubbed and chipping. Sculpture in excellent condition. |
