Pair of vases of globular shape, each decorated with two pinkish and greenish roses in full bloom and one rosebud, in counter position. The decoration is surrounded by translucent red enamel (pigeon blood) on an underlying ground of silver foil. On the one vase, the silver foil is treated to show two carps swimming between water plants (ginbari technique). On the other the underlying silver foil shows a bird flying between plants. Feet and upper edges mounted in silver, Cloisons in silvered and gilded copper wire. Silver foot rings stamped with mark of the Sato manufacture (bun). Japan, Taisho / Showa period. Height: 5 inches (12.2 cm). Excellent condition. |
