Bronze vase with decoration of a squatting monkey in champs levee technique. The right arm is held up. The body of the monkey in very dark purple, the face reddish brown, the eye white, the ear yellow. Bronze with a very nice green and brown patination. Bottom marked with archaistic inscription. Japan, Meiji period, 20th century. Height: 12 1/8 inches (30.6 cm). Some dents and nicks and scratches. |
