Circular black lacquer box with slightly domed lid. The cover inlaid in mother-of-pearl pieces with a design of two human beings standing together. The black lacquer is crackled showing s reddish brown color in the crackle and along the rims. Korea, Yi dynasty, 18/19th century. Comes with Japanese fitted box with insect damage and with silk pouch. Height: ca. 1 3/16 inch (3.4 cm); diameter: 3 5/8 inches (9.3 cm). Cover broken in two and well restored. |
