This is a museum piece. It is a Meiji 19th century Gold Brocade on Blue Silk Temple Banner. I have seen similar ones used in Japan for dedication for family, priest and memorials. In a high carat rich gold thread decorated with a Paulownia Flower Empress Tree Mon Crest, with hexagon honeycomb shape patterns. It has on the back, hand painted ancient Japanese script calligraphy. It done in 3 main segments, the last segment is in half making it 4 pieces. The condition is poor, it is in fragile condition, with two tears on the creases. It is worn along the edges, and the bottom. It is lined on the back with a natural fiber, linen type. It measures 95 inches long x 16 inches wide. This piece need lots of respect and need to be conserved, it is a treasure. I currently have it rolled up, ready for shipment. A spectacular Japanese Textile. It if folded over a rod in the photos, and the gold is one tone throughout, the pictures are showing a shadow in the gold.
