This piece is dated on the front “1786”, hand carved with initials ML and ER. Signifying a marriage, in the 18th century, possibly early American or English. It is a small caster, a cylinder with a handle, made of brass, with a domed pierced cover, with circular holes. It was purchased in the USA which makes us believe it might have a USA origin. These types popular for using to shake pepper, sugar and cinnamon. It could use a polish, in good condition, no repairs,it has some denting from all the years of use.
