This is a PAIR of Papua New Guinea ceremonial clay pots. Both with two side of figural painting on them, using lime, charcoal, and yellow ocher. Possibly also for sago, the moist Palm Flour, a staple in their diet. Similar pots are found are from the Sepik River region. The woman collect the clay, the men decorate the pots, they use a low temperature firing technique. I also saw in my research , a similar shape was used as a chalice . They both have chipping along the top and bottom. These superb primitive art ceramics are special, please check out the photos. They each approx measure 6 ¼ inches tall x 4 ½ inches wide.
