Mid 20th Century, collected in 1970's, this figure comes from the Lower Sepik River area where it meets the Bismark Sea. Murik Lakes is a combination of fresh and salt water lakes, in the Lower Sepik River Region of Papua New Guinea. This female amulet figure of a woman and child, it finely carved from dark wood, she is holding a baby, possibly just given birth, it could be the placenta between her legs. She is anatomically correct, she has a rigged arched back, and a plump bottom, with knees bent she is holding a baby in front of her belly. It comes with the stand, that was made specially for it. It stands 9 ¾ inches tall without the metal display stand.
