Antique Textile Chinese Silk Embroidery Ceremonial Banner Valance Pelmet
Museum Piece Exotic Birds 19th Century
This is a very long hand embroidered antique Chinese Silk Banner, used in temples, and for celebrations. This antique piece dated from the 19th century. It depicts exotic colourful birds, on a purple silk background. Done with silk threads, using the satin stitch, it has a beautiful divine look to it. It has condition issues, lots of wear along the borders, there is a tear along the top center, and on the corners. I did find a ¼ inch hole when I held it up to the light. I took lots of photos, extra ones will be posted on my web page www.westwillow.ca. It was also so long it wraps a bit around the corner of the wall.
It has an even colour throughout, its is backed with a cotton printed fabric. This is an antique piece, museum quality, very decorative, can be used as a wall hanging.
It came from a collector gathered in the 1960's in Asian. It measures 114 x 18 inches.
I am currently going through an estate collection of textiles and objects of art, so keep looking as I get new items listed.
