Kangxi mark, but probably 1800s
Gong-shaped brush washer for use on scholar’s table. Covered overall in a glossy, clear glaze and decorated only with two concentric rings of cobalt blue encircling the mouth. The clear glaze reveals the fine white porcelain body. There are a few characteristic pinholes in the glaze on both the exterior and interior surfaces. The narrow, well-carved footring is unglazed, showing the dense white porcelain paste. There is a Kangxi mark in underglaze blue on the base. The mark is well-written in the typical standard six-character script usually seen on this type of brush washer. Very small, almost invisible hairline on the lip, otherwise very good condition. Diameter: 4 ½ in.; Height: 1 ¼ in.; Footring: 3 ½ in. diameter |
