Rare Victorian Pinchbeck Bracelet
This is a gorgeous bracelet with the added bonus that it is totally wearable. This is a very old piece dating back to the first half of the 1800's. It measures 7 1/4 inches in length and the fantastic chain band is 1 1/2 inches in width and the clasp 2 inches in width. This piece is made of Pinchbeck, named for its inventor Daniel Pinchbeck. It was a substitute for high carat gold and is still highly collectible because he was so successful at replicating high carat gold. It was only manufactured for a short period of time and is rare and in great demand nowadays. It does not tarnish, this is one of the tests to determine genuine Pinchbeck. The chain is heavy and it is flawless. The Pinchbeck work on the clasp is gorgeous but the most interesting aspect is the turquoise blue glass stone on the clasp. It is decorated with unusual symbolic designs which I can not decipher except for two dancing type figures in center. There is one chip on the top left but it is not noticeable and the symbol in that spot has been restored. The last photo shows this spot. You will not see another bracelet like this one because of the rarity of this glass plaque. It has a push-in clasp in good working order and a safety chain. Layaways are welcome. Please email me for assistance and questions.
