Edwardian Bracelet Rare Saphiret Cabochon Stones
This is a rare find dating to circa 1905, the Edwardian period, set with 5 large genuine saphiret glass cabochons measuring 15x11mm. This glass was not manufactured after 1900. This gorgeous glass was made by adding real gold into the glass which was sapphire in color (thus the name) as it was being made. It originated in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia during the mid 1800's. The results were stunning, as you can see, this brick red color with blue "fire" is unique unto itself. Sometimes confused with "dragon's breath" stones, this is genuine saphiret glass. The cabochons are large and have no cracking or wear. I think the setting is silver plated brass and it does show some tarnish. This is typical because the stones are glass. It has a newer spring ring clasp. The measurement is 6 5/8 inches in length and could be made larger by adding more rings I would say this bracelet was not worn much, being 100 plus years old.
