|A moulded pottery pilgrim flask, each side is moulded in relief with a depiction of Saint Menas flanked by camels and Christian Crosses. Flasks like this were used by pilgrims to carry water or oil home from the great pilgrimage site for Saint Menas, said to be a late third-century Egyptian Roman soldier who was martyred for his Christian faith. He is shown between the two camels that returned his body to Egypt for burial. Egypt, 6th to 8th Century AD (Probably from Abu Menas near Alexandria) Rim chipped, general light surface wear as seen in the photographs. Size: 10.1 x 6.7 cms Ex. private collection, UK.|
