| A black glazed pottery spindle-shaped flask with an incised and painted body. The shoulder is decorated with three doves painted in white, separated by three red-painted stalks or leaves. The neck is painted in red with a series of vertical rays. The horizontal lines separating the shoulder and neck are incised. This form of vessel combined with painted decoration is uncommon. Greek, Gnathian colonies in Italy, 4th Century BC Intact except for a few minor chips on the rim and a little surface erosion. Size: 10 x 4 cms Ex. UK private collection. Acquired from "Collector's Corner" in the late 1970's (This was the trading name of the highly regarded dealer Charles Ede during this period). | ||
