| A very attractive light green glass flask with rectangular sides and a round spout mounted with a single strap handle. The base is moulded with a series of concentric circles. Rectangular flasks are considerably rarer than round-bodied examples and must have required a high level of skill in order to manufacture the shape successfully. Roman, 1st or 2nd Century AD Discreet repair on handle, otherwise intact. Some iridescence in places. Size: 13 x 7.3 cms Ex Private Collection, UK. Ex. Christies Fine Antiquities, London 2005. Compare: Item 25140/4 in the Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh; and also an example in the Bomford Collection, London. Both are square-sided jugs moulded with concentric rings on the base, but both contain Greek inscriptions within the rings. | ||
