Imari rice bowl with lid (called "chawan" in Japanese) from the mid- to late Edo period (1780-1830), decorated with a ship and a small bamboo grove in red and gold.
The top of the lid bears the mark "Dai Shin ken ryu" in Japanese kanji characters (seal script, underglaze blue), a spurious Chinese Qianlong mark.
The chawan has a diameter of 10.5 cm (4") and a height of 8 cm (3"); perfect state.

It is bisected diagonally, depicting ducks, butterflies, iris flowers and a winding stream in the left/lower half and abstract patterns in the right/upper half.
