Blue and white Imari bowl, 18th century Edo chuki
This is a beautiful blue and white Imari bowl from the middle Edo period (around 1750).

The centre shows the "three friends of winter" - pine, plum and bamboo; the rim is decorated with a scroll design with leaves. The reverse shows "takokarakusa", the well-known octopus vines, as well as an "xo" pattern around the foot rim.

The bowl is marked "Sei ka nen sei" in Japanese kanji characters, part of the Chinese Ming Chenghua mark.

Diameter 15 cm, height 4.5 cm, perfect state.
