Lidded cup by Kakiemon Sakaida XIII

This is a Japanese porcelain cup with lid, produced by a member of the most famous family in Japanes porcelain, Kakiemon. There roots go back to the 17th century and the very start of porcelain-making in Japan. This cup, however, was made in the second half of the 20th century and by the 13th bearer of the name.

Typical for Kakiemon style, the decoration is very sparse (just a few flowers and blossoms) and the palette very simple (red, green, blue, yellow and black). Also typical is the very high quality of the porcelain - it is a real joy to hold this cup in one's hands.

The cup is marked "Kakiemon" in Japanese characters on the underside (underglaze blue).

It is 7 cm in diameter and 10 cm high and in absolutely perfect condition.
