This Imari plate dates from the mid-Meiji period (ca. 1880-1900). It is decorated entirely in overglaze colurs (mustard yellow, green, orange, aubergine and gold).
The centre of the plate shows a phoenix as well as some paulownia ("kiri") leaves. Around the rim, there are chrysanthemums, leaves and "takokarakusa" (octopus vines). The reverse is undecorated and shows one central spur mark. Diameter 23 cm, perfect state. |
