| Framed oil painting "The Oriental", 1838 by Friedrich von Amerling (1803-1887),attrib., oil on panel, framed size is 23"x 20", unframed 13"x 11", unsigned, dated 1838 on the reverse. Good condition. Friedrich von Amerling was one of the foremost Austrian portraitists of the 19th Century, whose extensive oeuvre exemplified the tastes of the Biedermeier period. The present work is a version of the picture executed in 1838. Another version of "The Oriental" was sold on Christie's auction in May 21, 1999 at Vienna for $272,000. This portrait also was not signed. | ||
