A very charming Japanese wood carving of a large frog with a puffed out chest and a smaller frog standing on its back. Hand carved with wonderfully lifelike detailing. Artist's signature on the underside reads "Kokei". Kokei was a netsuke carver who lived around 1781-1801 (Edo Period). He was especially good at carving tigers and hence his name means "tiger valley". He was born in Ise and learned his skills in Kameyama. Size: 6" H x 7" L x 4.75" W
