|Satsuma wares originated during the 17th century when the daimyo of the Satsuma Domain, the Shimazu clan was sent to Korea during Hideyoshi's last campaign and brought home a Korean potter to Satsuma. By the 19th century, various designs and motifs were created. Shiro Satsuma is one of the most highly sought after. The bowl shown is an unusual green Satsuma tenmoku bowl with the crests of the Satsuma clan and the general crest used by many daimyos and nobles representing Japan. The shape of the bowl is distinctly seen in tenmoku bowls and the bowls are used in formal gatherings. Age: Meiji period (1868-1912) Size: Height:2.5" Diameter 5.25"|
