The inscription found below the painting describes of how the artist was inspired to produce this painting.A rough translation of the inscription reads: During the early summer of the year of the earth sheep (1979), the artist was awakened from his sleep in the small chamber from the fragrant smell of the plum blossoms. Being in the mountain hall, the master was inspired by a work done by Ming Wang Qian of an image of plum blossoms done in ink. The artist goes on to discuss how the noted Song poet, Wang Ting Jian (1045-1105) would describe the view of the landscape with the plum in the cold. Age: Circa 1979. Size: Height: 61.5" Width: 24.25"
