| A carved Japanese panel of jumping rabbits over waves. The motif of rabbit and waves originates from a section in a Noh play that describes the island of Chikubushima, which is located in Lake Biwa, and the reflection of the moon on the waters invokes the image that a rabbit is riding on the waves of the lake. The back contains a two character inscription, possibly to mark where to place the carving. Age: Meiji Period. Size: Length 20" Width 1.25" Height 5.5" | ||||||||
