Japanese Woodblock Print by Amano Kazumi
Japanese woodblock print by the artist Amano Kazumi. The print depicts a lively scene of a banquet in the entertainment district with geishas and other performers. Some geishas dance while others serve sake while the men eat, drink and enjoy. The print is signed and dated 1957. Total size in frame: 19" high x 47" wide. Size of image: 12" high x 41" wide.

Amano Kazumi was born in Takaoka City, T˘yama Prefecture. He graduated from the Takaoka High School of Industrial Art in 1945, specializing in furniture design. In 1950, Amano studied briefly under Munakata Shik˘. By 1953, he was exhibiting at the Nihon Hanga Ky˘kai (Japan Print Association), and then moved to Tokyo in 1955. In 1968, Amano relocated to the United States, first working as a teacher at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois and Marycrest College, Davenport, Iowa. In 1971, he moved his family to New York City, where he worked for 30 years.
