Antique Japanese charming cha tansu (storage and display chest for tea items). The top portion of the chest has sliding panels decorated with silk under glass scenes of figures on a bridge and engaged other leisurely outdoor activities; a display compartment on the left hand side has hinged glass doors frosted on the bottom, inside the display compartment is a staggered shelf of chestnut wood against a background of gold flecked paper; to the right is another compartment with curved wooden doors and two small curved drawers; the bottom portion of the chest has a compartment with sliding wooden panels and two drawers across the very bottom. The chest is made mostly of chestnut wood with pretty keyaki burl used on door and drawer panels, the interior of drawers is all kiri (paulownia) wood. Circa 1930's, Taisho Period. Size: 40 3/4" high x 29 3/4" wide x 13" deep.
