|A pair of Japanese Shinto shrine protector deities. These figures are often seen near the central gate of a shrine protecting the main deity of the shrine. The statues are carved from pieces of wood and joined together with glass or crystal eye insets. The statues are often referred to as in Japanese, Zuishin zo which are derived from the guardians seen in the imperial court during the Heian period. The stools do not come with the statues.
