A fantastic Japanese bronze of the Treasure Ship, or Takarabune, carrying the Seven Lucky Gods of Fortune named Hotei, Jurojin, Fukurokuju, Bishamonten, Benzaiten, Daikokuten, and Ebisu. The Seven Lucky Gods are said to board their ship on New Year's to bring those who believe in them happiness and prosperity. The ship has the head of a phoenix. Along with the Lucky Gods, the ship carries many auspicious treasures specially attributed to each god. Its sail is emblazoned with a bodhisattva flying over Mt. Fuji with an auspicious symbol above them. Taisho period (c1920). Shown with a 20th c. Chinese rosewood stand, may be purchased with or without.
