Japanese single section mizuya (kitchen tansu). Made with beautiful keyaki burl wood panels. The frame is made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) and sugi (cryptomeria). The original finish is lacquered in an unusual orangish-brown color. The top portion of the tansu has four sliding panels which open to one large compartment. The bottom portion of the tansu has two large sliding panel doors over another large compartment. The right hand side of the chest has a drop in panel door and a small drawer. Original finish, Meiji Period (1868 - 1912).
